Why X-Chat?

Invented in 1988, internet relay chat, also known as IRC, is a type of real-time chat messaging, that is designed for group communications that occur in areas known as channels. These channels allow users to speak openly to others in the same channel, or even to speak privately to one, or more, users in the same channel, or on the same server. The biggest aspect of IRC is likely that it also allows data transfers, or file sharing, and on a person to person basis.

What does this mean for X-Chat?

To begin with, this means that X-chat free download is more than just a chat client. It means that X-chat can also serve somewhat as a peer-to-peer network for file transferring directly to another person, instead of bouncing off of this network and that. This increases download and upload speeds exponentially. Additionally, you can actually have a much higher rate at determining the safety of downloads received by taking the time to get to know users who share their files. Most commonly, the more you know someone, the less likely they are to attempt to give you malicious material. Of course regardless, you should still always scan your files since even a friendly user may not be aware they have a virus or trojan on their system.

Some chat servers are so dead. I can never find anyone to chat with. Is X-Chat another dead chat system?

Absolutely not, on IRC alone there are over 100 top networks that serve more than 500,000 users on the hundreds of thousands of channels available. There are servers for gamers, even specific games. There are servers for those who love to cook and share recipes. There are literally one or more servers for just about any topic you can think of.

How do I find the one for me?

Always pay attention to the websites you frequent, quite often you can spot a box or piece of text somewhere that may say something similar to “Join us now on our IRC” or “Chat live with us here”, this may be their own X-Chat server and you should be able to open the site in the X-Chat program, and make instant contact with those who have similar interest to you.
